Response's from my vB forum members

VonDoom,

I believe if you have 3 established communities you should stay with vB until XenForo staff produces a Gold or Stable version of this software.
Sure thing, I have no intentions of moving any of my forums until gold at least.. Ill probably move a smaller community at gold and see how it goes from there..

Don't you guys think vB 4 is a major mess after you moved from vB 3 to that ?

So what is the difference when you move to XF ??

You are going to have another "change mode" is all, but you will not have to deal with a fraudulent licensing scheme set up by financial people looking at spreadsheets and projections.

For me I would rather move all my DB's to a new platform versus paying IB for anything, PERIOD.

My main site depends on a couple of mods. After this last update to 4.08 I was ready to rip my hair out and close the forums and make the switch to xf. I did end up getting the kinks worked out that needed fixed and 4.08 is going to be the last update I make. I am tired of new features with bugs being added along with bug fixes. Fix the bugs first, not introduce new ones. I will not renew either two license at vb. I have 2 xf licenses now and plan on getting about 4 or 5 more.

With that being said we setup the one starter forum and between me and 4 other members from my main site we have over 1,500 posts in about 2 - 3 weeks. XF rocks and it is just so much easier to use.

Yep... thanks Dean... changed the original too. That is exactly what I meant.

Looking forward to seeing great relief with my CPU as well upon change. I anticipate having my main forum over to XF around 15 - 25 Nov. VB4 is doing this to the server CPU at present:

When I change over, I will post an after snapshot... I am willing to bet the difference will be significant!
At the risk of stating the obvious, your experience is worthy of its own thread. I am really looking forward to your results. :)

This is my biggest regret.. I have three vB4 sites running on my VPS plus im hosting a free forum for an affiliate and a couple Joomla sites.. But my largest site a (vB4 Suite) sees load spikes 3x to 5x more then allocated, at least once a week, causing a crash each and every time.. That is the single biggest reason i want off vB, Ive had about all i can take of random puking by my server.

Yep.... this following data is all due to the VB4 suite on the VPS... table locks are tragic, let alone slow pages:

No, I dont think its a Major Mess.
Its certainly not perfect - by any stretch of the imagination, but not a major mess either.
I have no idea what you mean by a "fraudulent licensing scheme" - I guess thats part of some personal issue you clearly have with IB [as per you last line] - Im quite sure no real fraud is involved in a vb licence.

Ah, my pet hate - the insane CMS query count. They really [really] need to look at the design again (and cache some bloody templates would be a start !)

Fraudulent licensing is exactly what I said Paul, if you have no idea then you have no idea.

Answer this Paul.

Is Internet Brands honoring the original license agreement on software I was sold 3 times when I purchased my "so called lifetime forum software licenses" ??

Yes or No, go ahead and answer this Paul, YES or NO Please.

Anthony, it's probably best to discuss your issue with IB elsewhere ... no one here is looking for an argument, and as this is the xenForo forums it would be good to have some positive feedback on xF and leave vB behind.

Cheers,
Shaun :D

Each of those queries reminds me of one stick of TNT each. ;)

This is the topic of the thread, could we forget all about the other issues?

Sorry Dean, But (haha there is always a but) im glad it went sightly off topic because it has already helped me a (VPS Novice) to understand where and why my server is puking.. this problem has been a thorn in my side for months.. I suppose il respect your xen powers and leave out the rest of my giant list of complaints,, But (yes another but) i swear ive received more unintentional help and support on my issues here then i do from another so called support forum..

Well, yes, server performance directly affects the members experience. That part is understandable. But it would be fantastic if we could keep the conversation focused on xf in general. And personally I see no reason to discuss other softwares licensing issues.

VonDoom,

Being that XF isn't as developed or as feature rich as vBulletin, naturally we can expect vB to process more queries. :)

I would be willing to bet that XF has a lower query count than all other "main stream" forum softares (vb, phpbb, ipb, mybb, etc).

I love XF and I am on this website everyday, literally. The software developers have this to say, before you purchase a license.

Beta software is not fully stable and supported. It is released to gather feedback and find bugs before releasing a stable version. We do not recommend that beta software is run in production.

Note the queries displayed here relate to the vB4 CMS. Moreover it is far from feature rich
