xenforo.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is not trusted because it is self-signed.
The certificate is only valid for *.xenforo.com
The certificate expired on 3/20/2013 10:18 AM. The current time is 5/20/2013 7:17 PM.

    (Error code: sec_error_expired_issuer_certificate)

The fact that it's self signed should be a hint that it's not something we're actively using right now. :)

I have always wondered (but never really investigated much) on how to self-sign w/o a browser err msg (if even possible) getting in the way first. That way I can do a proper redir from https/* to http/* w/o browser interference. Perhaps a 'real' cert is the only way.

Nope, you can't. Self signed will always error until you add them to a trusted list
