XF 1.4 Removing @ from existing tags

How can I remove the @ sign from existing tags - I've unticked the box in the User Alert Options and new tags don't have the @, but all the existing tags still have them.

There isn't a method in the software that handles this, it would require direct manipulation in the database or an add-on to remove them on the fly. @Kier's post find and replace could accomplish this (with proper RegEx and back ups).

RegEx I used:

Regular Expression: /(\[USER=[0-9]+\])@/
Replacement String: \1

To add an @ just change to:

Regular expression: /(\[USER=[0-9]+\])/
Replacement String: \1@
