XF 2.3 Redirecting with discourage mode

I was wondering. If I put an IP address in discourage mode and redirect it 100% then why doesn't it redirect that IP address for the full 100%? I ask because I have a few IP addresses in discourage mode and they still show up in the "guests" list. Not in the huge amount as before I put them in there, but still, they get through. With redirect at 100% shouldn't that be impossible?

Yes, that should be the case. I did test it now and it worked as it's supposed to. Those ip addresses that you put in discourage mode, was that done while the ip addresses in question were already at your online list? If that's the case once their current session expires, or they reload your forum they will be redirected accordingly.

On a side note, have you installed any third party app or did any modification to your forum that might interfere with the discouragement mode?

I put an entire IP range in discourage mode (43.173.0.0/16) and this is what is listed in the "guests" tab from the last 7 minutes.

It's not anywhere near to what it was before, when I had dozens of pages from just this IP range, but still, with a 100% redirect I'm surprised I'm seeing them at all.

Are you adding the ip range precisely as the example between the brackets? Can you try to add it like the example below and see if that will make a difference?

43.173.*
That's how I had it first and I changed it to the one above. Makes no difference. I mean it does make a difference to how it is before putting the range in discourage mode but they still get through. Maybe they are hitting us so much that the system can't deal with them all and some get in through the cracks so to speak.

discouraged mode visitors are still accessing the forum right? even if redirection is 100%, they are still getting recorded as a visitor i imagine.
When you put an IP address or a whole IP range in discourage mode and they visit, discourage mode gets triggered (and you can see when it was last triggered). But you don't see them on the board, in the guests list. I monitored for a while just now and one or two others got triggered but I didn't see them on the board in the guests list. So far only this 43.173.* range shows up as guest, viewing threads. I don't know why. My only theory is that they are pounding the site so much that the discouragement system can't deal with them all and some get through. Which makes sense, I mean the way I'm using it, it wasn't made for that.

That may very well be the case imo. That makes perfect sense. How many guests do you have online? If you have a lot of guests it's only logical that a few might sleep through the cracks.

Actually that's one of the things that puzzle me and undermines my theory: I have very few guests at the moment, only 179. We're a small forum and are usually around 1000 and a few thousand when bot swarms hit us. We're also low on bots at the moment, just 25, which is normally a few factors more and going up into the hundreds.
