XF 1.4 ReCAPTCHA connection timed out

This error started showing up a couple of weeks ago, now I'm getting the error dozens of times a day:

ReCAPTCHA connection error: Unable to Connect to tcp://api-verify.recaptcha.net:80. Error #110: Connection timed out

I have not made any changes to firewall, configuration or whatsoever. All OUTPUT is allowed, and all INPUT on 80/tcp is allowed in IPtables.

Any ideas why this might be happening consistently?

If it's happening consistently then it could indicate a network or connection issue between your server and the recaptcha server.

You would typically need to ask your host or sysadmin to investigate.

Could you tell me which ports need to be open for ReCAPTCHA?

Is INPUT --dport 80 -p tcp enough?

You need to either allow outbound access to all IPs on port 80 or use a proxy server to do access control based on host name.
