I'm about to purchase the game come friday (I'll grab it at the local store) What was the big failure? Game itself? that it had some issues?

Well since it requires online to play the game, Origin was Bum rushed of all of their servers over wrapped by so many people buying and downloading the game at once--since today is launch day after all...

Smart thinking on holding it off until Friday probably be best so that EA has time to re-calibrate their server. I'm unable to download it since origin is processing so many people in so many regions at once.

I'm gonna purchase the physical copy saves me DL it plus it's cheaper.

I remember when i purchased diablo 3 and the servers just couldn't cope and were offline most of the first two weeks and that required only online play, terrible how blizzard didn't account that people would buy their game.

The actual game is good though right? From what I've seen of it it's looking sweet and I've been following it for quite some time now.

There's also a 6GB Battlefield 3 update being pushed out to the masses too ...

I know because I'm sat here watching it download - and can't play BF3 until it does. :(

Well I am downloading it now. And wow its only 268MB on the Digital Delux version to DL!? 0.O

Well that is a bit odd.... I wounder if the rumors are true that it really is dependable on the Internet. Hope I don't DC.

Anyway since most of us here play SimCity, if you want to play and build a city, be my guest. I might start recording a game series on youtube again soon.

Looks like from all the complaints it is dependant on having a connection, quite a few people are kicking up about it not being able to log in because they've been put in a queue since the servers can't cope. They've only gone and done what blizzard did with diablo 3 and screwed the customer, more so the customers who pre-purchased.

Hopeully by friday (when it's released here) they will have sorted the server issues out since the demand for this game is high. Never quite understood why big companies like EA and Blizzard don't foresee this kind of demand for a game that they knew people are, have been waiting for for years and they never do prepare for it.

LOL Quite a few people can't even log in. Crazy.

edit: Not a good launch. http://thenextweb.com/media/2013/03...ing-users-without-the-game-and-out-of-pocket/

Won't be buying this one. It's a shame. Grew up loving the game and then EA got their hands on it and completely ruined it with their greed.

This is the thing that is concerning me. I loathe the fact that you need to be online to play a solo game. Fair enough, they need to protect their income, I can overlook that, but not prepare to have the adequate servers to cope with the demand? That is just greed and it appears the sim city community warned them before hand not to do what blizzard done with diablo 3 and prepare for the overload/demand. They've only gone and done that and people are waiting hours in queue to connect to the servers, some can't even log in at all. unforgivable.

As for the game itself, it's had glowing reviews so the game itself is excellent I just hope EA whoever fix the issues they forced upon their customers quickly, well by friday at least. I'm a big fan of the Sim City games, have been since the early versions so I'm eagerly awaiting to try this one out which i'm sure will be an excellent game.

(I know this thread is about random thoughts. And hopefully this subject isn't ruining the thread with such a large conversation about one particular item.)

So far I seem to like it. Its really well done. As well I am having some connection issues, that is expected. I had to switch servers to Europe since North American servers is packed. No surprise there.

And on that note, hopefully... hopefully... that sometime down the road they wont need internet to play this game. Because if my internet goes out, I'd like to still play it. But than again I have Sim City 4 Double Delux still loaded on my computer... old school... but still good. :)

The main problem is that they took a single-player game and forced an always-online aspect. You can't save & reload on your computer any more (goodbye wanton destruction, which a lot of people did fun). You have to rely on the fact EA will keep the servers running for longer than a few years. What happens when SimCity 6 comes? A lot of people still play the originals years later... I doubt they'll be able to now. Again, DRM ends up screwing the legitimate customers and the pirates will remove it and play it without any issues. Companies have yet to learn this, sadly.

That's just the biggest issue with the game so far. The removal/changes of other features (like terrain tool and smaller city sizes) just isn't right, but I could forgive that if the rest of the game brought more to the table.

I also wouldn't put too much weight on reviews. :p They notoriously known for favoring even the crappiest of games just so developers/publishers don't attack them, especially if they seem praise a game too much. Even without the complaints of the online aspect, it seems a lot of fans of the older games aren't too happy with this new one.

Side note: I'm craving waffles. :(

Yeah, that just the pitfalls when a company cares for profit more than giving the gamer a better gaming experience. I did like the option of offline play (because let's face it my isp is sh-ite) and I'm always getting connection timeouts but i think this is the way companies are going and they know people will purchase regardless even though they may complain they'll still go out and purchase.

Regarding Reviews, yeah I'm not taking too much from the reviews, I seen live previews of it and it was shaping up nicely so I figured it'll be a good purchase but i'll make that judgement myself when i get my hands on it. Plus I can get it at the local store for a discount, plus vouches I already have I'll be purchasing the game for next to nothing so it'll be worth the purchase regardless.

That said, I'll wait if needed until the servers are more stable and can cope with the influx of people trying to log in.I probably won't wait I'll be here complaining why i can't log on. :D

Random Thought: *shakes fist at EA*

Installing Sim City. Will i be able to play it? Hopefully :P Also looks like i had an Origin account and when did i purchase Battlefield 3? It's on my list of games owned. o_O
