The avatar make less space for editor and preview button looks bad.

I have Andy's Quick search bar as well and keep getting the two bars mixed up on mobile.

On Desktop the Quick thread shows the avatar and differentiates.

Notice the quick search bar, on mobile when this avatar gets removed the new threads bar blends too much with the quick search bar.

So exactly opposite to the OP of this thread I want this avatar to show on mobile because when it is removed and threads have no prefix the bars look very similar.

For a while I was trying to put a search icon in Andy's quick search but that proved fruitless so showing this avatar is my saving grace on mobile to differentiate the two fields.
