Private forum please help

I am trying to create an admin only forum/board that is viewable only to staff. Yet as soon as I select private node I can no longer see it!

I am selecting the 'Private node' option and clicking on the the 'View node' permission for the desired user group(s) and user (me) but it still remains hidden! What am I doing wrong?!
