Portal or no Portal?

I added a portal to my site and I am wondering if its the best idea to make the forum stand out against others and it brings the most important news to the front page. But I wonder if people have problems getting to the forum rather then the front page. Plus, I am not sure if a web hosting forum would generate enough news to have a front page.

Just looking for thoughts.

You can use it to highlight the best sections of your forum or best threads by auto promoting or manually promoting content respectively. If you are not going to be posting news regularly then a forum portal is almost always for the new users so you can showcase your forum to them. Existing users wont ever open it for sure.
