Please help me understand Child styles

I am using the a style that has several different colors.

I uploaded the style and called it AWiF Base
I then uploaded each matching colored style and named then AWiF Red, AWiF Green, etc.. and made them a child style of AWiF Base

I thought that by changing the AWiF Base templates it would populate and change ALL the child styles automatically but this doesn't always work.

Are there things, or times when you would need to update all the styles? Is it the style that is causing this or is this normal?

Thanks,
Jamie

I'll see if I can find the thread with the specific answer but meanwhile, I was told that if I create a child style, and then export it and re-import it, it will not include those things inherited from the parent style.

I would have to re-assemble the original structure -- make it the child of the original parent style I based it on.

And here's that thread.

It will... unless those same templates are customized in the child styles in which case the child overrides the inherited template from the parent.
