XF 1.2 php requirements

My server runs php 5.3.27 and I want to upgrade from XF 1.2.5 to XF 1.4.2, do I need a newer php version?

You are fine. XenForo requires PHP 5.2.11+.

XF 1.2.5 was released February 2014.

PHP 5.6 was released August 2014.

XF 1.2.5 will definitely work with PHP 5.5, it may work with 5.6.

No.

Every version of XF is only guaranteed to work with the PHP version which was available at that time.

You can check the XF and PHP release dates to work out what they are.

That's XF 1.2.2.
