Page- and SubPage URLs

I saw that addons like "8WayRun XenMedio" using URLs like
www.mydomain.com/media
and also sub-urls like
www.mydomain.com/media/playlists

How to get that working?

Seems that this is done with Routes, right?
Is there a tutorial on how to create a route?
