That's a good thing. I've done something similar, but instead of the "new" icon it shows me the number of new posts in the thread.

Nice add-on, but what I really need is the "New" icon on the forum home page, where it shows all the categories and sub-forums, not the what's new page since obviously these posts are most likely new, so it's redundant there.

But on the home page, I am forced to alter the appearance of the node icons using another add-on to indicate new posts within. But this is tedious and some members are confused.

Is it possible to add this to your add-on? Thanks!

I use a custom node icon add-on and use my own node images, and yes it works. But I'd like the "New" message to also display next to the forum name on the home page where there are new posts.
