Options for Homepage/Portals

Hello, this is the first time I install XF.
I want to make a cool homepage where I highlight good threads and video content.
So far I saw this https://xenforo.com/community/resources/page-as-portal-homepage.5663/
But I don't have content yet to see how it looks.

And i also saw the paid Xenporta addon. Which looked great. Should i just get that and move on or not?
Ideas?

As you have just started, and as you say you do not have any content yet, it does not matter if you use the basic XenForo functions or additional functions with (paid or free) add-ons your page will remain empty until you have created content...

So you should tackle this task for the moment, what do you say?

Personally I created a home page only with XenForo widgets (a bit like indicated in the resource you cite), without purchasing anything additional, click on the link in my signature to see it live.

Xenforo search is so limited, people use google.

Stop talking nonsense.

We don't produce search software.
We use off the shelf elasticsearch, as do many companies and it works perfectly fine.



Other companies prefer to use Google because they recognise that Google's sole business is search and it's a multi trillion dollar corporation because of it.

Not all of us have the ability to have Elastic search on our servers, plus you will have to pay for the add-on. The basic search system (mySQL) provided with XenForo is anything but efficient, in terms of searching and in terms of displaying results. Not to mention the intuitiveness and UIx... disastrous (and this is valid with ES too).

ES isn’t an improvement.

All forum searching is terrible. Xenforo is no exception.

It doesn’t really matter most people never use it. Finding addons via search is very difficult.

Even when you know what you want it’s hard.



Any search that gives me a Turkish language addon before the actual addon is objectively not good

How would Xenforo.com know that people are finding the search a useful tool ?
