I don't know whether this should be regarded as a bug. It might be a matter of improvable default behavior.

I switched my server OS to FreeBSD since my recent server migration.
However, PHP 7.4 on this platform does not pre-install a lot of usable components.
I got all of them installed.
However, my forums still failed from sending outbound verification emails (SMTP) until yesterday I installed PHP OpenSSL component occasionally.

May I assume that PHP OpenSSL component is expected to be regarded as one of XenForo mandatory server requirements?
i.e.: please improve the server requirement check in "XenForo Requirements Test Script" and XenForo installer & upgrader & AdminCP.

Thank you for reporting this issue, it has now been resolved. We are aiming to include any changes that have been made in a future XF release (2.2.0 RC3).

Change log:
Disallow email TLS or SSL encryption when unavailable and add OpenSSL extension information to the server environment report
There may be a delay before changes are rolled out to the XenForo Community.
