Is there a way to show a notice to a user just once? Just been looking and can't see it's possible. Though I am a little hungover so might be missing something obvious. Cheers

No, they would need to actively dismiss it.

OK. Thanks I thought I noticed on @Brogan 's site that he has a cookie notice that looks like it only shows once. Maybe I'm mistaken . Cheers.

In 1.5 floating notices can be dismissed automatically. It's not exactly what you want, but it's the closest.

The standard Cookie Notice is only displayed if there are NO cookies from this particular forum present. Once you've visited the site, there's a cookie there and the Cookie Notice won't be shown again.

Unless you've set your browser to "delete cookies on exit", which means the Cookie Notice will keep coming back.

I've replaced the standard Cookie Notice with (ahem) something a little more truthful. See http://www.alemontree.eu/forum/threads/cookie-policy.2/ .

It would be nice if there were such a thing as a notice that wouldn't be shown again that didn't depend on cookies but unfortunately there isn't.

Might work, is there a character limit in a floating notice?

No. It's the same as a block notice, just with a few more options and displays in a different way.
