Native XenForo App in Development.

A phantastic looking and thoughtfully planned app. Congratulations, @Slavik !

I would be interested to purchase a source code license for one of our forums, even if it costs a lot. With a one-time fee, because we do not need any updates or push handling. With such a license we would be able to extend the app ourselves to include all the add-ons we need and all the services we need.

As it currently stands, the add-on does not support a single add-on. This will lead to problems with many forums, because there is almost no XenForo forum using no add-ons at all.

I personally do not like to publish an app which cuts it's users of from main content at our site.

I'm pretty sure most forums could recoup $25pcm off members interested in using the app. Set up a usergroup promotion with a recurring subscription and charge $1 or $0.50 a month or even $0.10? Laughing!
@Slavik can you confirm this functionality will be supported in the app? I can restrict whom has access based on secondary usergroup membership.

Will (can) this be published through our own Apple/Google developer accounts on the respective stores (and thus we need respective developer accounts) or is this published through a centralised developer account?

Thanks.

Prices are provisionally:
$10 a month for a shared native app with self styling
$15 a month for a forum-specific app with self styling
$25 a month for a forum-specific branding free app
Additional charges may apply for differing publish options.
These prices would be yearly paid for in advance. There would be no free version.
Here we go again with the ugly, annoying and expensive copyrights...
it would be great if you guys consider remove the last option and sell the apps without brands/copyrights.
Nobody like that and very sure there will be much more people interested.

Or write your own ;) I personally see nothing wrong with $10.00 more per month for branding free.. The app is already super cheap compared to TT's BYOI

Huh? Just ignore options 1 & 2, and tell yourself it's $25 per month for the app without branding. Viola, you have what you want.
oh, yes! that's it. you're genius! Thank you so much, appreciate your brilliant idea.:)
and I apologize for my dumb message. I was wrong, very sorry.

What about translations? Not everyone is running an english-speaking forum.

This will be a future release.

I imagine this would be unlikely to ever happen, but we can look at it down the line.

On the initial release, no, but something we can consider for sure, its a great idea I hadn't thought of!

Publishing will be either self-publish if you have the accounts, or we can publish it for you.

All that would happen is the price would go up to compensate.

I can do a translation to Dutch, it would be cool if someone else could check it afterwards because I'm not a trained translator.

Here we go again with the anti copyright drama.

If you don't like copyrights or paying for branding removal.
Simply don't use it. Or build your own.

Copyrights and branding exist for a reason.

Really? oh, Thank you! you're very smart! I do appreciate your great suggestions and your valuable knowledge.
Please accept my apologies if some offense was taken from my post, as that was not my intent.
Have a nice day Sir/Mam.

Initially we are hoping for a mid-January release for the first iOS release, with Android coming sometime around the end of February/March.

Why is Android always put behind, despite having a larger market share? Never understood that.

I think despite the market share, the type of audience between them makes the market share slightly misleading. You can get a Android phone for, what, probably sub £50. There's probably a lot of them sold, bumping up the market share. The people who purchase them probably won't even use any apps, or only very few popular ones.

But, aside from that, technically developing apps for iOS is thought to be easier. Not sure totally how true that is, but that seems to be the perception (if you remove the "need a Mac" restriction).

I don't think that in the slightest. Android apps are written in Java... Which, despite it's limitations, makes it much easier to develop apps.

And yes, I have tried to develop iOS apps, but yeah...

So, the perception is wrong... Although it could be argued that that is an opinion in itself.

(Also, developing Android apps is cheaper...)

Awesome !! Sent you PM .

Just one question will this work fine with other addons like xen gallery /shoutbox etc.

If you mean, will those features be included in the App, then no.

Addon support (once added a long way off) will be limited to the official XenForo addons to start with, 3rd party addons will only be even further down the road and only considered based on extremely strict criteria if at all, and would also require a hefty contribution to the development cost.

My only real problem with Tapatalk is cost and inability to add javacript for message processing. I use MathJax for equations. Could this solution support it somehow?

Much like anything else in this world it usually comes down to money lol. As a group, iPhone users are more affluent and spend more on apps.
