NAS recommendations - are QNAP any good?

Formerly CyclingTribe
I want to build a NAS box with a couple of 2TB drives in for storing backups (I like the fail-safe of RAID as opposed to a single USB drive).

I've played with a cheap Thermaltake one but it had really limited options and was quite poor in operation.

Someone mentioned QNAP are very good. Any of you had any experience in this area, and are there any other brands that are good quality?

yep, QNAPs are really great, I came from a Synology NAs to QNAP as i wanted more hands on approach to adding web server/photo server addons.

Some of the QNAPs are also RAM upgradeable.
