Modify ffmpeg for video transcoding

Hi there,

is it possible to modify the ffmpeg settings to reduce the filesize of videos?

For example bitrate, fps and resolution.

Push :-).

I use the software handbrake to compress all my videos. The software is also available for ubuntu (command line).
Does anybody try to use handbrake instead of ffmpeg?

The FFmpeg settings we use should already reduce the file size, though it won’t attempt to change the resolution.

For the most part though it should reduce the file size for most videos regardless.

Do you have any figures. e.g. if somebody uploads a 1 minute video from iPhone (1080 HD 1 minute = about 80mb), is it possible to say what would the approximate processed file size be?

Thanks

If you upload a video to our gallery here it will be transcoded and I’ll take a look at the resulting file size. Results may vary depending on the codec and bit rate of the original video.
