XF 2.0 Mobile thread pagination - is there a more intuitive option?

Since the update we are getting many users asking questions like:
"When will we change back to the old style? Will the page numbers for an individual thread be back? So I don’t have to click 20 times to get to a certain page?"

This is due to the fact that the thread pagination nav is not intuitive (and on mobile does not display at the top of the thread without a template change, but that's in another thread). People simply do not realise you can tap on the "nn of nn" box or click the ellipsis to go to any page in the thread.






Has anyone invented or tested different options for the mobile nav?

At the moment on desktop I might just swap out the ellipsis for "Go to pg" text, but I am not sure it is all that elegant.

I'm not sure what I could do on mobile that is intuitive and doesn't take up half the horizontal space.

Anyone got any thoughts?

What if you added a caret-down icon for the mobile view pagination on your site?

Sure, it adds a little clutter but is also in keeping with how the primary navigation and filter drop down menu buttons are styled.

Does 2.1 re-jig the FA codes? I'm using 2.0 and not likely to go to 2.1 until the end of the year.

XF2.1 uses Font Awesome 5, which introduces fas/far/fal (3 icon styles): https://xenforo.com/community/threa...markdown-support-and-more.154701/post-1287380

For XF2.0, fas fa-caret-down should instead be fa fa-caret-down.

There are a few options when it comes to the Page navigation style out of the box:

Style properties -> Miscellaneous -> Page navigation style

Or search "pageNavStyle" in the ACP search.

XF uses "mixed" by default which switches to that view in mobile. Using "Full" would retain the individual page number in desktop and mobile.
