XF 1.1 Member without permission accessing a staff area

Forum has a member who has been a member for 5 years, has posted 4 times, and last night showed up in a staff area (reported posts) and posted a one letter response. Interestingly, name doesn't show up in bold like members's names. Checked member out in ACP -- no permissions marked. Googled email and looked at IP addys -- real person, no weirdness...except showing up in area without permission. Has anyone else had this issue and know how to rectify it? Thank you.

How did you check the user's permissions? Was it with the Analyse Permissions checker? Did you check node permissions for the staff forum as well as global permissions for the user?

Also, are you using the Send Reports to Forum feature in the ACP (ie you're using a forum for reports rather than the Report Center)? If so then it'll likely be a reported post that has ended up there.

I am new to this. Learning the ropes! Checked permissions under User in ACP. Don't yet know about the Analyze Permissions checker. Haven't found that. Will check to see if I can find node permissions/global permissions. Doesn't show up in members posts on profile page either. So. much. to. learn.
This member posted in a thread that only staff can access and see and respond. Member didn't report anything, but posted response. And why is the name not bold like other members?
Thank you.

Use the ACP search in the top right for "analyze permissions" to find it.

Are you sure they posted, or has this post been reported by someone? You mentioned it was in a "staff area (reported posts)". Are you using the the Send Reports to Forum feature? Use the ACP search for this to check.

Well, this is disheartening. Maybe this version of XF doesn't offer that option?

The member did not report a post. Each time a post is reported by a different person, there is a new report. This person responded, and the post appeared as the most recent above staff responses. Thank you.

Ah, just noticed the prefix on this thread. Are you really using XenForo 1.1? It's a very old version. If so it'd be worth upgrading to the latest version (it's only $40 to renew).

Test permissions did show that member couldn't see section. Members may see the button, but when they click on it, it says there's nothing for them to see. Just a weird one-off maybe? Thank you again for your help!
