Looking to come back to Xenforo

Hi left xenforo for IPS in 2016/2017 but am now thinking of coming back. I know development is slower here but I am presuming the future of xenforo is pretty solid? Anyway, I have a few questions in regard to coming back if I do.

Is there a way to set all user's Email options from the admin? Obviously, they can change them as they want but I want to be able to set them in the admin for all users in the first instance. This goes for alerts and other email or on-site alerts.

  • Is there a plugin still that can be used to sell ads? Also, I want to be able to place my own ads but in different places to the default like after the last undread but also after each first post and every 10th?
  • Can I create a paid membership so that when people register they have to choose either a free account or paid one? In addition to this can I force current registered users to also choose a membership before continuing on the forum?
  • Is there a way to set a mobile footer menu so that users don't have to use the slide-out menu? A bit like social apps say 4/5 menu icon items that always sites at the bottom of the screen for quick navigation.
  • Is there a way to feature threads? On IPS there is a feature option where a thread you want to highlight to the community can be featured and it automatically shows on the main forum page above all forum sections.
  • Is there a way to set a required length for thread titles for example "hello" isn't long enough, needs to be 25 characters or more?
I will probably have more questions but for now, I can't think of them.

I think there are some add-on out there that do this (search Resources section). You can force users also with User group permissions. Set user group for Subscribers to allow access to all nodes and Deny others to see nodes. This is built-in to XenForo. You'll need to play a bit with this one. Thanks so much that was really helpful. With the default registration values is there any way to do the same for already registered users?
Also is there anywhere to edited the menu on the forum to add items?

Yes i mean the main menu, i looked but cant see anywhere in the admin to add items. Do I have to do in within a template?

Admin > Setup > Public navigation

As for setting a user’s current watch content settings it could be done with database queries but if you’re talking about making it so that people are forced to receive emails that would be ill advised. People typically aren’t ever happy to be made to receive more emails.

Great thanks and for the watched content etc I was thinking of more alerts on the site than email. Is there a way to add a tab in the menu rather than adding a sub menu item of home, forum members etc

If you want to stop email notifications for existing threads and forums that users are watching then these two queries should do it:

SQL:
UPDATE xf_thread_watch
SET email_subscribe = 0;

UPDATE xf_forum_watch
SET send_email = 0;

When you're adding an entry, just make sure it doesn't have a parent.
