So you're saying addon developers have no right to know whether they are selling mods to someone using the software illegally?

Quite frankly I find it quite strange that they do want to know.
When you buy software they don't demand to know that your using a legitimate version of windows.

Yore really mixing your analogies there. I assume there are some products sold by MS that require a valid windows license. That's the analogy you should be using. Likewise, if there were official photoshop addons, they'd query whether photoshop was licensed.

Pretty much every Microsoft product, though people just use the OEM exploit to look like a genuine install.

If you use that argument it is invalid to this conversation because if you super impose this to xenforo it only applies to the rm and the search ... it would not cover 3rd parties works.

If phoning home is the only option, note that it must be shared that the app is phoning home so I can decide on if I am ok with that person or entity connecting with my server.

I would have just did what you would have done and put the phone down on the desk whilst the person making the call is speaking.
