Please note this is an early build, and things might still change between now and 'gold' release.
And that the steps of uploading the files and downloading the config.php has been skipped.

Aha.

It's just that for a lot of people, there will be 2 databases configured - 1 for their existing forum and the new database for the XF install.

So in those cases the automatic script won't work?
It sounds like you're talking about importing, which is a separate system (and it asks you for the source DB info before it starts).

Before installation there is also some chmod'ing that needs to be done so that some files can be written out. It's easy to do, though it could be a stumbling block for some people. This is checked as part of the requirements step.

And the config file will probably need to be re-uploaded separately, as it's generally something that shouldn't be writable by the web server. Also quite easy if you uploaded the files in the first place. :)

Thanks Mike, that clears up a few more things.

Does the software have to be installed initially and a new xf database created before doing an import?
Or can you do the whole thing in one go?

ooopps didn't know it was an import. :p

And if you have more than 1 database configured?
How does the script know which one to choose?

I'm not trying to be difficult :D, just trying to understand how it knows which db to use.

What you meant is how does XF fill in the variables in the config.php for you
The answer is: internally.

It tries to find config.php (which needs to be renamed if you want to manually do it)
if it finds it, it will echo out in the browser, and test the data.
Else it asks you for the info. After which it will try to write the file,
if it can't, it will offer it for download. So you can upload the file.
(And then tries again).

I used Joomla for a while, it was something like this.

Glad I ain't the only one who says XXenForo - I've seen people typing it out how they pronounce it: Shenforo.

Xenforo! :)

OMFG... how completely easy was that??? Amazing... even a complete novice with zero idea on how to install software could install that.

Continues to be impressed... Cheers Floris for creating that one.
