    Hi,

I have seen some forums which have installed xenforo in the root directory of their domains (ie, at www*domainname*com)

And others like this one which have put the forum in a /community or /forum sub-directory (ie, www*domainname*com/community/)

And yet others which have installed in a sub-domain such forum*domainname*com

How does each installation type affect the SAFETY and SPEED / PERFORMANCE of xenForo and it's themes and add-ons especially as the forum grown in number of database querries?

Does it affect the functioning of mod_rewrite scripts as well?

It's just a difference in organization. It doesn't affect performance or anything like that.

It usually depends on the type of site. If it's a forum site consisting of nothing but a forum then you probably want to install XF in the root. Otherwise a subdirectory is best to leave room for other web pages and web applications not pertaining to XenForo.
