XF 2.1 Inconsistent linking to newest posts in "New Posts" screen

When I show the "Home-->New Posts" listing of new posts in threads from my forum home screen, the unread posts in threads (since last session) are displayed in a list, all in bold.

Things are set on my forum so when my members click on a bolded thread title in this list, they are then taken to the unread post(s) in that thread.

I have found that this behavior works generally pretty well, particularly for shorter to medium threads. However, I've received some complaints for longer (multi-page) threads that a click doesn't always take the user to the newest/unread post in the thread.

Anyone know why this happens? It's inconsistent, and I can't always repeat it, but it does happen. As said, generally for shorter threads it works OK.

"Newest" and "First unread" can be and in busy threads often are different posts.

It should take the user to the first unread post in a thread.
