Importing vBulletin (different URLS and Servers) - Redirection problems?

Hello,

I need to import a vBulletin 4 Forum from a first server with a first URL to a Xenforo-Forum on a second (different) server with a second (different) URL.

Will this cause any problems with the redirection system provided by Xenforo?

(I don't want to lose the old links without redirecting them to the new Xenforo-Forum.)

Greetings and thanks

Hi,

No, that won't be a problem at all. Just do a 301 redirect from one domain to another and set up the vB-XF redirect rules on the new server

Really? I thought the rules for redirecting should be placed on the old server.
If by "URL" you're referring to the domain, then yes if you're keeping the old domain associated with the old server then the redirect would need to be there (not sure why you'd want to do this, just paying for an old server for nothing really). If it's the same domain then you need the redirections on the new server where XenForo is installed.

To make this more clear:

1. Server: Domain 1 (vBulletin)
2. Server: Domain 2 (Xenforo with imported vBulletin data)

=> simple redirect on 1. Server to 2. Server and running the redirection script on the 2. Server?

How will the script on the second server find out the original link?

PS: I want to holöd on to both servers, siunce they have a different function. Or is it recommended to transfer Domain 1 to the 2. Server?
