You will need to ftp to your server to upload the file to the public_html/js/xf/ directory.
But first you need @Jeremy P to confirm the patch hasn't already been applied to the current 2.3.7 release. If it has then you won't need to do it.

Replace the enclosed xxxx attachment / replace it with what where?
So inside the zip file is an attachment that needs replacing with something somewhere?
You're over complicating things although to be fair the wording that @Jeremy P used does seem a little confusing. You simply need to replace a file on your server with the supplied file of the same name.
So download the attachment and unzip it on your PC. You then need to upload that unzipped file to your server which will overwrite a file of the same name. My preferred method is to use an FTP client. You'll need to navigate to the correct folder on your server which contains the same file name and overwrite it with the unzipped file on your PC.
Can I ask why, 3 and a half months after it was fixed, the known issue has not been resolved for others who have not yet moved to 2.3.7? Surely it is a 2 second job for you guys to replace the file.
It doesn’t inspire much confidence in being an early adopter of future upgrades.
It would certainly take more than literally 2 seconds, but yeah - shouldn't take long and it IMHO would have been smart to just release 3.7.1 Patch 1 as this issue was discovered only a few dayes after release and significantly effects everybody (who either has image optimization or max widt / height enabled).

It might not be rocket science but one of the advantages of using Xenforo is the ease of use and upgrades. When I first started my forum I knew nada about the tech side - I’ve learned a bit along the way but I also knew nada about servers as well. I just wanted to run a forum and keep it as simple as possible!
For some people it would be beyond technical knowledge or expertise.
2.3.7-1 would definitely have been useful. Any idea how long before 2.8 will be available?
How did those people install the self hosted version of XenForo than if uploading a single file to the server is beyond their technical knowledge as installing XenForo requires creating a database and uploading a dozen files?
Please don't get me wrong, it's perfectly fine if please don't want to get invloved with such technical details.
But in this case XenForo cloud might be the better choice; self-hosting (no matter which software) might be cheaper and is certainly more flexible, but it requires more knowledge / maintenance than SaaS.
I don't know if there ever will be a 2.8.
As there have been quite a few bugfixes lately I think we might see 2.3.8 in 2025 (with a bit of luck).

Well in my case I hadn't a clue how to upload it and was talked through it by the server and a bit of help from the xenforo team However it is quite straightforward to upload and get up and running.
And some members of this forum are very helpful if technical help is needed. So I'm probably perfectly capable of doing the patch - now it's been explained, but it's more the principle that we shouldn't have to. And there may be some who also aren't that technically minded or have to pay for help.

All because my crew were telling me that they couldn't see the images and when they did they were rotated.
You may have misunderstood me there
I was talking about initially installing XF software, not the patch.
I say wait for 2.3.8
When trying to send this file to the guy who does my backend work Gmail tags it and says I can't send it because it detected a virus.
That's expected behavior from Gmail, the file is safe and if it won't allow it, trying zipping it again (on your own machine), otherwise, find a different method to transmit the file.
Patched it, but now we've got this permanent message in the ACP, how do we get rid of it ???
