If I buy a new license and hire a Fiverr freelancer to migrate vbulletin 3.8, do I...?

Hey guys and gals,

I think I want to switch from vbulletin 3.8 to xenforo.

My question is, once I buy the xenforo license, I plan to hire a Fiverr freelancer to migrate my forums from the old vbulletin to xenforo and make sure everything works properly and customize it to my liking. Do I send them all the new xenforo files for them to upload it on my server or should I upload the files to my server directly where my forums currently live, then have them access the control panel and have at it?

(I have used Fiverr coders for many years without issue, so I am confident in outsourcing it on Fiverr unless someone here can do it for that price).

Also, my old forums have photo galleries from my old users. Do I need to buy the xenforo photo gallery extension or will my old photo galleries transfer to the new xenforo software without the need for the xenforo galleries? (No idea if these are compatible anyways).

Thanks in advance!

Just want to update this thread. I would like to thank all of you for your help! I chose Slavik to do the migration and he did an amazing and quick job, so thank you Slavik!

Now, time to learn how to customize it and use this admincp after being with vbulletin for about 20 yrs.

@colenot,

I'm glad you had a good experience with @Slavik !

I apologize that I hadn't seen this thread, and somehow missed reaching out to you when you contacted me (I'm not sure if I did, since I don't know the email address it came from).

Starting in August, I dealt with Covid-19 in my household, then I got it after others recovered. I thought things settled down, then my wife was in the hospital for 10 days, and then I became sick again for almost a week with a stomach flu. It was the roughest 2 months I've gone through in a long time, and I have no doubt I probably dropped the ball on some things!

There are so many variables with forum versions, hosting situations, add-ons needing import and forum sizes, so I don't post quotes publicly. This way, I avoid any misunderstanding someone may have about why their migration's price is different.

I sent @TorontoJoe a DM with about a dozen questions, to properly quote it. :)

i’m looking at migrating as well and I’m trying to get all the information I can before taking the plunge. My migration would be from MyBB. Well, I understand there are many variables. I’m just trying to get a sense… If I installed the core XF on my shared host. Is there a ballpark range anyone could provide as to what it might cost to have someone perform the migration?

If it’s impossible, even to provide an approximate range, could someone suggest what information I might need to provide to get a quote?

Would it be more than a link to the website and a list of the plug-ins that I’m using?

Thanks all
Hi Joe,

Since @Slavik will help you to switch to XenForo, our maintenance service ($130 per month) could be a great option for you.
It’s a helpful way to learn the ropes of XenForo while we keep your forum running smoothly with regular performance checks, theme adjustments, personalized tweaks, and quick bug fixes :)

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or need further assistance!

I appreciate this. I probably should have specified that I would expect a quote to be private and after some consultation on the scope of the project.

1. For fresh XF installation you must use the official XF upgrade service, they know server requirements & can install completely without any errors.
2. For importing the old forum the best person is Slavik, because he has created an importer, knows better & can fix errors faster than anyone else.
XF team is trusted & has a big reputation, they won't use your data anywhere else!

Personally, I would not trust anyone else, because forum data is personal & private.
Any idiot can use those data for their own aim, what can you do after all the data leaks out, write to Fiverr & remove that freelancer? Come on!
