I sure miss the old Xenforo days

Soooooo???? Google is correct? You cannot patent an idea? Oh... and I happen to have some legal training in my background... so there's that!

If you want to talk legal, then legal is specific. Everything else... is opinion.

He left out the requirement of implementation being required for patenting an idea, but the conversation wasn't deep enough to have to specify more than that ideas can be patented (with caveats).

Every "sovereign citizen" on Facebook claims the same.
That's some American thing, isn't it? My law work was military. I am not claiming to be a lawyer, I'm not. I was clear, legal training. Had to get 100% on legal subjects, had to prosecute and defend military members. Had to work with solicitors and barristers. Just legal training. What that training taught me, is that the law is specific, as outlined already, which you seem to be getting mighty defensive over.

You said it yourself, my statement is "technically" right, which makes your statement, "technically" wrong. It's ok to be wrong. Move on.

So you have absolutely no actual experience with US (or probably) any patent law, and you can only parrot AI/Google to "um actually" an one off post that lacked full nuance to the technical side of patent law, by someone who has stated that they have patents.

If you have only had to do "legal training" and work with solicitors and barristers than you likely have less technical knowledge than someone who has had to do the same to file for patents, and definitely lack experience in the reality of filing, retaining and protecting patents.

None of this even has anything to do with the original subject of this thread, so I do not know why you're having a **** measuring contest other than the fact that you're trying to flaunt your ego for no apparent reason other than that you have nothing else to do with yourself.

Relax, :-) I was trying to inject a little humor with my last reply.

Over time there's been a growing expectation that even with free add-ons, those who use the add-on should get free support, and they complain when they don't. Plus, users are less technical than they used to be and ask for help with what used to be considered the simplest of things. I would not develop something these days for people like that.

I see it even with paid development, where it somehow means endless revisions and scope creep don't cost more.
I remember when I first started it was more of figure it out kinda web and I think everyone wants instant nowdays which saddens me. Kinda like the car community. Early days people pushed the boundaries and now days its not like that anymore.

I see from the coder/designer side of things that people want it perfect for each of their communities and each of those can take time to make it perfect for each and then the cost for the avg person becomes out of reach.

I was thinking about how I sure miss the old Xenforo early days. I miss all the interaction with the members and staff, and how alive the forums felt. I find myself only coming here weekly now to check in to see if there is a new version out, and it seems like all the new posts are nothing but AI-generated addons. I miss the times with @Chris D, @Kier, and @Borgan, interacting with everyone. There are still some old members roaming behind the scenes, I see, like @Bob and @Russ, etc., but it just doesn't feel the same anymore. Anyone else miss it?
Think it's a bit like a marriage, isn't it, after all these years the "fire is gone." We live in the same house, but we no longer really talk

Think it's because so many people are wanting stuff on a silver platter and when it doesn't happen all hell breaks loose by those who have become impatient.

forums struggle because forum ownership refuses to adapt to new social media standards that most users have gotten used to.

every forum script that does not have a social feed is just pushing users away.

our forums would thrive if we gave readers an experience similar to social media and I know XF can handle it - but I want it to come from them and not some shoddy AI addon that probably has a ton of bugs or can't handle high traffic.
The XF User Profile page could be a great alternative for social media. You can gain followers, follow others and interact in the same way as early facebook and twitter.

I just struggle to implement it in the right way but fully agree with your point.

We don't need more social media.

Maybe read what I wrote?
That doesn't help anyone mate.
I'm all for helping people out on here and not about trolling and being nasty to others.
It's in the rules - maybe find them and read them yourself instead of trolling others.

No, not really. This was always a support forum. I never hung around for general chit-chat.
