htaccess help needed

When i type in my new domain name i can still see the holding page. I can access my forum with a trailing /forum on the url.

I need the url to point straight to the forum pages.

My host said "You need to set a redirect from the httpdocs folder to the forum folder."

Can someone tell what exactly i write in the htaccess txt file and where i put it

Is there any reason why you have installed in the /forum directory if you're just going to redirect from the root?

Why not just move the installation to the root?

I am no whizz at this kind of stuff. I did think you had to create a forum folder and drop the installation files into there but as you say it seems i could have just dropped the files into the root.

I just want to be able to access the forum once i type the domain. Can i do this with a redirect or can i just move the files to the root without causing any havoc.

Just move the files to the root and update the Board URL in the ACP.
