How to block a user from seeing a thread

My forum is an international choir and we have a need to keep three of our users (the staff of the choir) from seeing one post where we are planning a surprise for them. Can I block their ability to see this one particular thread?

I don't think so, at least in base Xenforo. You would need to do a separate forum node and give everyone but them a group with access to that node. There might be an add-on, but I am not sure.

Another option but if it is all except those members, might be a bit unwieldy.

Conversations are really much effective way of doing things like this. It's like a thread, and you invite everyone you like or want within conversation.
