this is far down the line but would it be possible to add another smiley section to the formatting bar?

I want a section for just my own collection of animated gifs. These can be uploaded in and work in the current smiley section.

All I think you have to do is duplicate the current smiley section and rename it "forum gifs" and then only upload forum gifs in the section.

You can do this through the Admin Panel. Go to Admin Panel > Communication > Smilies and you'll see the option to create smiley categories.

First, create a new smiley category — go to the "Smilie categories" tab and add one (e.g. "Forum GIFs"). Each category becomes its own section/tab in the smiley picker popup.

Then, when you add or edit individual smilies, you can assign them to your new category. Upload your animated GIFs as smilies, set the category to "Forum GIFs", and they'll appear in their own dedicated tab in the editor's smiley picker.

A few things to keep in mind:
  • GIF dimensions matter — large animated GIFs can slow down the editor. Keep them reasonable (around 50-100px for inline use)
  • Display order within a category is controlled by the "Display order" field on each smiley
  • You can set a text replacement code for each one (like :forumgif1:) so users can type it directly

No template editing or add-ons needed — it's all built into XenForo's smiley management system.

Thanks, I have already taken this route but that's not exactly what I was looking for, I'm looking to have a "smiley picker popup" for each category, gifs, smileys etc.
