XF 1.4 How do i get an alert for everything?

What does the watch option thread or messages mean please? Threads mean I get an alert for new threads, but not replies to those threads. I want new threads and all replies notifications, if so do I pick the Messages option when watching? Thanks

You will only receive a single alert until you visit the thread and read the latest posts.

It is not possible to receive alerts for every single post in a thread without visiting it.

Threads are new threads. Messages means any new message, be it a new thread or reply.
