Hire someone to troubleshoot issue with xenForo and Brave browser

I have a strange issue that the default Brave browser breaks the text editor and other xenForo elements. I'm aware that the workaround is for the user to turn of the Brave Shields Up option but I want this to work with the default Brave settings as it seems some Brave users aren't going to change the settings. I have contacted Brave tech support but no luck as yet.

I have confirmed it on a test clean install on the same server but xenForo support cannot diagnose it as they do not offer support for 3rd party sites and the problem does not occur here.

Brave default Shields Up works fine with this and other xenForo installations, hence I know it is not a standard problem with Brave. The issue is with my (clean) installation on a test site, which I have set up to confirm it is not an issue with a customisation I have done.

So I'm hoping it should be relatively easy for someone to troubleshoot. If you think you can diagnose/fix this please contact me with your fee.

Many thanks

Could it be a manual block added to brave as opposed to default? I would try incognito mode as well. Brave maintains block lists and custom blocks, I would assume this is why.

The site was indeed on one of their block lists - due to having once had an Adblock detector back in 2018. So I have applied via Github and the Brave forum to have this reviewed and hopefully removed from their list. Recent checks show it may have been unblocked, fingers crossed.

As well as the text editor not working, it also screwed up the mobile view , ie the hamburger menu does not show - only a partial view of the desktop editor rendering the site quite useless on mobiles.

Yep, the Brave browsr ad blocker also kills cookie saving because of the ad block detector @Mr Lucky

What I found though was users didn’t even know they had an AdBlocker. All they knew was they were using a browser called Brave. I was shocked to find that such users with a default installation of Brave are being served a very broken site and of course their first instinct is to blame the site.

I understand and agree. It actually took me speaking on the phone (about an hour) with the user that created the thread to mitigate the problem. He had no idea that it was on or how to configure it.

Tell the brave users to turn off shields up for your site ?
Yes that is a workaround, but you shouldn’t have to. If your site is not using an Adblock detector it should not be on a block list that causes the default browser to break the site.

Plus if you do that then get added to more block lists.

the xenforo sites with ads may not WANT support for Brave.
No site, with or without ads, should have be thinking about supporting a specific browser. It’s the other way round - all browsers should support any site that is compliant with modern display standards. In my case Brave (with default settings) broke the display of a standard up to date xenForo site with default styles, no ads and no addons.

This is not the first time I have heard of Brave’s features breaking sites now that I think about it. The ad block functionality is weirdly twitchy.
