XF 1.3 getting error when trying to send mass mail

I got the above error repeatedly today when trying to send a mass mail. I even hard refreshed the page and still got the error. Other parts of my forum worked fine. Help please!

If you send yourself a test mail, does it take a few seconds for the page to come back and say it sent?

How have you configured the mail system? SMTP?

Yes the test mail works, and I found out it indeed sent the mail mass as several users replied to it. It was only to 16 members. Could that have something to do with it? I use the internal mail system.

Does that error come up quickly or take a while?

I was originally going to say it was a timeout because it took a while to send the mail and then something killed the PHP process. However, if you're only sending to 16 users and using the internal system, that should be very fast. If the error comes up quickly, that would likely indicate that PHP is crashing (which is something that really shouldn't ever happen). Unfortunately, I don't really have a great suggestion there other than to look at trying another PHP version (if possible).

It takes a bit, and I've recently confirmed that the mass mail indeed does send. I haven't tried it with a higher number of e-mails.
