Full Friendly URLs throwing me 404 errors

I've check with my host and they do have mod_rewrite installed.

I've checked that there's a .htaccess file (there's also a htaccess.txt, does that matter)

Happens on a completely clean install as well as my modded version with xen porta and plugins.

Any ideas?

where does it sent you for the 404?
is your board in root or a subdirectory?
where is the htaccess upload to?

Board is in the root.
.htaccess is in the root

Yeah, I checked with my host before posting here and they said it's installed on every server on every package.
