Your ad network is the big issue you are having - mainly with TONS of redirects from them.

And those ads are what are definitely slowing down your site. Not a whole lot you can do without either removing them or contacting the ad providers and seeing how to streamline their ads so that you aren't getting all the redirects that are shown.

The weird thing is, even with adguard turned off, I'm only seeing what looks like a Google ad - and that infrequently.

I was also looking for a way to reduce the request from adv.
For example this banner alone, calls about 200 redirects!!!

Yeah you'll get different ad networks doing goofy things. I've had runaway requests from some. Complain to them is the best you can do sometimes :/
