XF 1.4 Fixing broken links

#1
So I think I'm doing this correctly (I hope). We have 78,000 conversations or so and I need to get those fixed.

Following Jake's suggestions in https://xenforo.com/community/threads/vb4-directs-broken.89932, I now have an .htaccess file which reads:

# Mod_security can interfere with uploading of content such as attachments. If you
# cannot attach files, remove the "#" from the lines below.
#<IfModule mod_security.c>
# SecFilterEngine Off
# SecFilterScanPOST Off
#</IfModule>

ErrorDocument 401 default
ErrorDocument 403 default
ErrorDocument 404 default
ErrorDocument 500 default

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On

RewriteRule ^[^/]+/([0-9]+)-[^\.]+\.html$ /index.php?threads/$1/ [R=301,L]

# If you are having problems with the rewrite rules, remove the "#" from the
# line that begins "RewriteBase" below. You will also have to change the path
# of the rewrite to reflect the path to your XenForo installation.
#RewriteBase /xenforo

# This line may be needed to enable WebDAV editing with PHP as a CGI.
#RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization}]

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -f [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -l [OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} -d
RewriteRule ^.*$ - [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^(data/|js/|styles/|install/|favicon\.ico|crossdomain\.xml|robots\.txt) - [NC,L]
RewriteRule ^.*$ index.php [NC,L]
</IfModule>
My 2 questions are:
1. Is the file configured properly and/or

2. With the new code at
RewriteEngine On

RewriteRule ^[^/]+/([0-9]+)-[^\.]+\.html$ /index.php?threads/$1/ [R=301,L]
Should there be one line between that or should it be
RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^[^/]+/([0-9]+)-[^\.]+\.html$ /index.php?threads/$1/ [R=301,L]
??

Have you tried an old link to see if it redirects correctly?

It makes no difference whether there is a blank line between.

I think we might have to see this in place. Can you submit a ticket with FTP access details and example URLs that aren't redirecting (but should)?

Well, after a week or so this seems to have straightened itself out. All of the old links in a google search are now redirecting to the correct webpages. Maybe it just takes some time for this to kick in.
