First Steps in XF (version 1.4) - A tutorial collection of guides, tweaks and addons to get you going

XF is exciting and creative but the downside of that is all these great addons can be bewildering. New XF users often ask advice on what to do once they have a brand new XF install. So rather than repeating myself in many attempts to help I'm making this info into a tutorial.
This tutorial is for those who want to add, edit, and customise their XF.

I like the idea of keeping a log of the changes you make. I'm going to do this from now on. :)

Great guide!

Also, how could you forget Widget Framework? (Which is btw a better and FREE version of this addon.

What do you mean TMS, please?
I haven't really got a "top of list." They are a collection. The first list is more basic, that's all, and the second list is possibilities, less essential.

On widget framework I once tried to use it and couldn't figure it out. That may just be my shortcoming. But as I made clear in my notes I am ONLY recommending addons I can personally say I found straightforward and reliable, with good support.
Using my own experience is quite a good test as I'm not a coder, and can do tweaks only under instruction. Anything demanding and I'm lost. So if I can do it it's safe to recommend to a newcomer.
Widget framework is popular and flexible. It's good that you mention it as it seems a good addon if you have some experience.

Nodes As Tabs is a bit complicated to manage, so it breaks my personal guideline! But it is so essential it's worth a bit of effort. My Admin. Favorites in mt sig gives a good step by step guide on handling it
