Aha. Maybe.

I'm having problems importing forums.
I imported forums twice and went to delete one.

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3145728 bytes) in /home/x/public_html/library/Zend/Db/Profiler.php on line 282

What does this tell you?

Are you running in debug mode? If so, turn that off.
It must be off at this point because I did a completely clean install.

I imported usergroups, OK.
Usernames, OK but it might be missing a few.
Private Messages, hung up.
Visitor Messages, OK.
Forums, hung up but I see them in my admin CP. Forum button still highlighted.
Deleted main category and child, OK.
Forums all left aligned.
Rebuild cache.
Still left aligned.
A few minutes later they are properly aligned category --> forum.

There is no pattern except that PMs and Forums aren't importing properly.

Trying something else.
I copied my live database to my subdomain.
I needed to use bigdump to move it.

Sow now I have seen two fatal errors. The 2nd error is while using bigdump.
Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3145728 bytes) in /home/x/public_html/library/Zend/Db/Profiler.php on line 282
[08-Oct-2010 20:20:30] PHP Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 8940996 bytes) in /home/x/public_html/x on line 634 (of bigdump.)

Damn. I started from scratch figuring I got the sequence in order.
Clean install of XF.
Close live forum.
Optimize and repair all vB tables.
Import.
Still stops on PMs and Forum imports although I can see the forums in my node tree.
