XF 2.1 Email to *** failed: [E_WARNING] proc_open() has been disabled for security reasons

Hello everybody,

I just purchased and installed Xenforo for the first time: https://www.egearforum.com

When I installed the software, I got an error message for the "proc_open" function that was disabled in the php.ini file. However, I could continue the installation.

Only now I discovered the consequence: new users can not register on the forum and I receive the following error message in my dashboard:
"Email to *** failed: [E_WARNING] proc_open() has been disabled for security reasons"

I already contacted my host (one.com), but they say then can not enable proc_open, because of... security reasons.

Any suggestions on how to solve this issue?

proc_open and popen are required for email delivery when using the built in PHP option - they are not required if using SMTP.

IMO, I would be looking for a different host at this point.

I installed the SMTP transport method now.

Same problem here, my hosting provider disable by default that function (for security reason) and on my current plan is not possible to be atcivated, I should change plan or provider. Can you please explai how to install SMTP transport method? Thank you in advance

You can select the SMTP option in the ACP.

You will need an SMTP email provider, such as Google.

Cool, just found it, thanks! Does it means I can use my email account forum@mydomain.it and related STMP server? Sorry for stupi questions, just trying to figure it out, not a pro here.

You can configure Google to use your domain via G Suite.
