Admin CP -> Appearance -> Template Modifications

There's a setting called "Modification Key:", what value are we suppose to put in there?

It needs to be a unique key to describe what it is, just like a phrase's name/key and a template name.

So for example if a template has two modifications, I would use 1 for the first template modification one and 2 for the second template modification.

You can name it (roughly) whatever you like. It's primarily used with add-ons to allow a particular modification to be tracked between upgrades.

why not use real names, which are explaining what you're doing?
It will be much easier to find what you're searching for if you name it "addNewsBoxToSidebar" instead of"sidebarchange1"
