    What style property controls the color of the x in dismiss notice?

    Pretty sure that that's an image.

    Yep. It's part of this sprite image:

    If you want to specify different images then you can use some custom CSS:

    Admin CP -> Appearance -> Templates -> EXTRA.css

    Code:
    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl
    {
    	background: transparent url('path/to/regular.gif') no-repeat 0px 0px;
    }

    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl:hover
    {
    	background: transparent url('path/to/hover.gif') no-repeat 0px 0px;
    }

    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl:active
    {
    	background: transparent url('path/to/active.gif') no-repeat 0px 0px;
    }

    Anyway to shift this one around a bit? The x with the red background would work fine.

    This will use the red X for all states (hover, active, and regular):

    Code:
    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl,
    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl:hover,
    .DismissParent:hover .DismissCtrl:active
    {
    	background-position: -112px 0;
    }
