[DBTech] DragonByte Social Groups [Paid] 2.5.3

No permission to buy (€19.95)
In approval-based clubs, when a user submits a join request, the add-on treats them as if they have already joined before the club manager approves the application. Because of this, our achievement criterion for “Joined a social club” is triggered immediately upon application.

However, we believe this criterion should only be met after the user’s join request has been approved.

I can see that being a problem. I'll release v2.5.2 shortly with this changed alongside a change to importers I forgot to include.

Once v2.5.2 is installed, you can run the "Rebuild group memberships" action from the Maintenance page to update everyone's group membership records.

DragonByte Tech updated [DBTech] DragonByte Social Groups with a new update entry:

2.5.2

Update highlights

This version improves the privacy mapping from Nobita's social groups, as well as updates group counters and group membership counters to only count groups that are not deleted/moderated, and memberships that are not awaiting approval or banned.

To rebuild the group membership counters, run the "Rebuild group memberships" action in the Maintenance page.

We have hundreds of social groups and my members cannot find the groups they want. This is because there are no categories or search.

Tags do not work. We have tagged social groups, but because groups are created for popular topics, the tags have thousands of other content burying the social groups. Clicking the tag cloud does not lead to a page where members can find anything. XF tag pages are not very useful anyway, but that's another topic.

It would be very useful to be able to search for Social Groups:

Please consider to add categories:
It doesn't have to be complex with permissions and category settings. It just has to make it easier for users to find social groups, when there are many.

2.5.3

Update highlights

This version makes various changes and improvements related to importing from Nobita's social groups.

You can also now manually run the "Rebuild social group memberships" maintenance action, that is normally ran after an import, from the Maintenance page. This should resolve any issues where your cached group memberships are out of sync with your group member records.

Lastly, a regression occurred where the "Maximum joined groups" and "Maximum created...

When the option to "Restrict search to social groups I am in" is selected in the advanced search, it only searches the titles of the social groups, not the discussion or contents. Is this as intended? My users are expecting it to let them search their group discussions.

I'm unable to replicate this issue. Are you sure you're searching on the Discussions tab?

Or is this in the Quick Search?

Sorry for the late reply, @Alpha1!

Good catch! Yeah, the search box does not exaclty behave like other areas do. I had noticed this as well, but forgot about that issue..

So,
  • The groups list needs an option to search for social groups . This option sould search the group containers (title, description, ..) as well.
  • Inside groups we have these options:
    1. Everywhere
    2. Discussons (i.e. all discussions in all social groups)
    3. This social group
  • So, inside groups we need as 2nd option "social groups" (like on the groups list).
  • Question: Does "This social group" als search the group container itself?
  • Maybe options like this would be better:
    1. Everwhere
    2. Social groups (i.e. all social groups containers + group contents)
    3. This social group (i.e. group container + group's content) *
    4. This social group's disussions (i.e. only the discussions in the current group; only visible when viewing discussion)
* (3) maybe does not make really sense (-> who wants to search the group's container of the group they are currently browsing?!). On the other hand from a logical point of view we should not provide a "disussions" option outside of the discussions section (e.g. on the group's overview). So, maybe combine (3) and (4), leave out group container, name it "this social group" and provide that option all over the group?

@DragonByte Tech, what do you think? Any technical problems with mixing the content and the containers (i.e. groups) 🤔

For now, I can add a "Social groups" quick searcher to the main group list page. This will only search the group info, which is title and description.

I'm not sure if you can search within multiple content types at the same time, so it might not be possible to have social groups and discussions in the same results list.

Update: The "List" page can now search all Social Groups (title, description) or all Discussions (across all social groups). The "Social groups" constraint is also added to the other pages too.

It is not possible to mix and match content types as I suspected, so it's not possible to search for group title/description AND discussions at the same time.
