XF 2.1 db upgrade...

OK, I am doing a fresh install of my forum, rather than just update it all. What's the best way to deal with the db?

Spin up a clone, do an upgrade and export/import?
Use an importer of some sort?​

I see there's an "Import Data" under tools in the AdminSB... do I just run that?

What do you mean? A fresh install has no (user) data in the DB...

If you want to update your DB (say MySQL 5.7 -> 8) just backup your db and upgrade.

My current forum is on xeForo 1.x
I'm rebuilding the forum on 2.1

How do I get the content/data from one to the other?

Don't make it hard on yourself.

Backup all your data and just upgrade your forum from 1.x (use the latest version) to 2.1.

If you really want to, you could then backup your upgraded DB and install a new server with 2.1 and import your backup DB.
But that is a bit tricky...keep it simple and just upgrade 1.x to 2.1

I have reasons to not do that. That can be a discussion for another thread.

Is there a way to convert the db from xF 1.x to xF 2.1 and install it on a fresh instance?

Like I said, upgrade to 2.1, export your DB and import it on your new install.
You could also migrate first and upgrade to version 2 afterwards.

As far as I'm aware, the only way of getting from an XF 1.x database to an XF 2.x system is to perform the upgrade process.
There's no XF 1.x importer for XF 2.x that I'm aware of.

Don't forget that as well as the database contents there are all the attachments for messages/conversations which need to move as well.

In the end, we created another instance of 1.x., upgraded that and exported the db. We then created a new site and imported that db.
