i used {$user.customFields.4} but it does not.

no matter which template it is.
in the "message_user_info" template, I can see the value.

Often if $user is not available, $visitor will be, and vice versa (however $visitors has things $user does not have). If both of them are not available, then you will need to override the controller in question and add $user or $visitor in via $viewParams.
