Custom Group Default Avatar?

Seems like it should be something right in front of me, but I can't find it so maybe not

Is there a way to define a default avatar for groups? It's fine if people override it with their own photos, which would be ideal of course, but in the meantime, I'd like to be able to brand/distinguish my separate user groups in a noticeable way.

You're not missing anything. It isn't there.

Default avatars are based on gender. They aren't based on group membership.

There may be ways to do this with template edits, but you would probably be better with an add-on.
