XF 1.4 Custom Fields Question

On vBulletin, our users had a custom user field drop down menu where they could select an icon to display on their postbit area. How can I reproduce this on XenForo? The icon is a simple small image.

You'd start with a single selection type (radio or select). You could then either manually insert the HTML needed to display the icon into the message/message_user_info template. Or, depending on specifics, you may be able to use the "Value Display HTML" option (along with "Viewable in message user info") to make it display automatically.
