CTA Featured Threads & Portal

CTA Featured Threads & Portal [Paid] 2.17.0

No permission to buy (£40.00)
Just curious. Is the capitalization change of the CTA is directory the result of just being consistent with other event names, or ?
Apparently, using capital letters for JS directories and files can cause issues on some servers.

I personally haven't had any reports of problems but I did read about it last week.

I was wondering if you're any closer to adding the ability to group featured threads by Author/User and Category.
It's not something I am considering.

What would the grouping achieve?
How would they be displayed?

It sounds like a lot of additional work for something which has been requested just once.

Before posting I did a search of this thread for categories to see if they had been included and there were a few requests but as you say not too many.

I was just looking at your CTA forum and there is a stat in the user info stating X number of featured articles but when you try and click it to see that user's featured articles you cant.

The utility of the Author and Category grouping features would be a way to promote site content internally. For example if I like an article by Poster X then I could click the 'featured threads' stat in his/her user info to read more of his/her featured threads. If I read an interview on your site and it's good then I would want to see what other interviews you've done, an interview category would allow me to easily browse your past catalogue of articles and interviews.

It would encourage me to spend more time on the site and the more often you visit a forum the more likely you are to register and join the discussion. If utilised properly a Categories and Authors system adds to promoting quality content and Featured Threads should always be quality content.

That's because there is no historic record of featured threads.
Once a featured thread expires, it is no longer displayed, so there is nothing to link to.

What you are proposing would first require an archive page.
Only then could filtering/sorting/tags/categories be applied.

Ok but dont you think it would be useful to be able to click the Featured Threads info to show the featured threads mentioned? When I see that stat it makes me curious about what threads got featured.

I think it would be a popular addition if you chose to make it.

As I said, it has been requested less than a handful of times.

One potential additional license sale doesn't really justify the massive amount of extra work required to implement it.

@Brogan I have just installed the new version you sent out today, doing a complete new installation and for some reason I just don't see the featured threads come up any place other that if I select the menu option?

I'm not sure what could cause it then, unless you have outdated templates or incorrect settings for the featured threads (i.e. do not display).

Check each one and confirm that is not the case.

It's not clear exactly what isn't showing, where.

Is it all of the tools, etc. or just the featured threads?

For the featured threads to show the following is required:
  • The permissions must be set
  • The options must be set
  • The style properties for the style you are viewing must be set
  • The threads must be featured and set to display globally, on the page, or in the blocks.
That's it.

@Martok Yes they hidden to everyone except me until I can get them up and running.

@Brogan I am not sure what other screen shots you would require that I have not already posted above

My previous post applies.

Test in a completely unedited, default style.
If it works then it could be something to do with your custom style.

I wonder if there's some sort of clash with the New Media block. What happens if you switch that off? Also, do Featured Threads appear on the forum view, new posts pages etc? You've only shown the forum list and the FT page.

Ok install fresh once again and the following done using XF default Style

  • Set my permission (just for my usergroup)
upload_2014-11-19_19-57-24.webp

  • Check Check if the Template Modifications are being applied - Yes
So what next as I still only see the menu item
